Valentina Chernykh represents the third generation of artists in her family. Being a promising painter in a constant search for her own style, Chernykh’s approach is based on capturing various momentary impressions, making one feel the atmosphere within the canvas. Her impressionist-inspired landscapes are a perfect example both of careful study of modern painting and unfailing interest and love towards nature. Her large-scale dynamic brushstrokes and colouristic method create an indelible impression of freshness and softness. Chernykh’s method allows her achieving visible movement of air masses, light and shadow in her canvases. Besides her landscape paintings Chernykh has created a series of portraits, all of which carry the touch of her individual style. The paintings depict people, whom the viewer finds usually in casual situations. The models are captured in various random everyday-life situations. However, these portraits are emitting unique dreamy vibe, which the artist achieves through masterful usage of soft, pastel-coloured palette. The soft, glowing shades of purple, pink and blue create a feeling of pale sunlight shining through the painting. The charming dreamlike characters are resting and make one feel their tranquillity. Chernykh’s art is a perfect example of contemporary painting which draws lessons from the great artists of last two centuries.
